Programs & Initiatives
NLAT offers a range of programs and initiatives that use art as a tool for healing, education, and community building. Our Art Expressions program provides veterans and first responders with creative outlets to help them cope with PTSD and anxiety. Through our "We Love Our Teachers" School Supply Drive, we support educators in underserved communities by providing essential classroom materials. Art Meets Art engages youth in the creative process, helping them develop skills like innovation and problem-solving through visual and performance art. Additionally, our Pop-up Art Exhibit challenges artists to reimagine the ordinary items, fostering creativity and sparking conversations within the community.
Art Meets Art
Art Meets Art is a visual and performance art program designed to challenge youth ages 6-18 to create new artistic works each year. By engaging in this creative process, participants develop vital skills such as innovation, problem-solving, strategizing, and relationship building, which are crucial for personal and professional growth. The program provides a framework for youth to embrace their creativity and apply these skills in all areas of their lives.

Recognizing that artistic expression is especially important for those in challenging environments, Art Meets Art offers a platform for youth to voice their experiences, culture, and communities through their art. The program encourages participants to take pride and ownership in their work, be daring and thought-provoking, and inspire others. The culmination of Art Meets Art is an annual event that showcases a collaboration of performance and visual arts, with youth artists involved in every aspect, from writing and producing to directing and choreography.
Art Expressions - Art Workshops
A key goal of NLAT is to help veterans and first responders heal from PTSD, stress, and anxiety by introducing them to the therapeutic power of artistic expression. Through the arts, these brave individuals, who routinely risk their lives to protect and serve others, are given the opportunity to explore new ways of expressing themselves and finding joy in the creative process.
The Art Expression workshops emphasize the importance of the arts in enhancing the quality of life for veterans and first responders. By discovering or reigniting a passion for creativity, participants can benefit not only themselves but also their families. Art becomes a vital tool for these individuals to communicate their emotions and experiences, offering an alternative to verbal expression, which can be particularly challenging for those who have faced trauma.
"We Love Our Teachers" School Supply Drive
The "We Love Our Teachers School Supply Drive" is crucial because teachers in underserved communities often face the challenge of limited resources, which can hinder their ability to provide a quality education. In 2023 alone, U.S. teachers spent over $3 billion of their own money on classroom expenses, according to Labor 411 and Reddit. By supplying essential classroom materials, we alleviate this financial burden, allowing teachers to focus on what they do best—nurturing and inspiring their students. These supplies empower teachers to create vibrant, engaging learning environments where every child has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their circumstances. Supporting our teachers in this way not only benefits the students but also strengthens the entire community by investing in its future. All Supplies are donated directly to teachers.
